Our Interesting, and Somewhat Stinky, Adventure

This morning we ventured about ten minutes from our house to check out Glass Beach. It is located near an industrial part of a small town. This area has been, and still somewhat is, a dumping ground for old equipment and junk. The glass on Glass Beach comes from the junk that has accumulated. It makes for some very interesting and colorful sand.

A closer view of the glass on Glass Beach. I had expected the glass to be rougher and sharper. However, it was very smooth from the effects of the ocean.

After checking out the beach area, we headed the other direction and saw quite a bit of rusted junk embedded in the rocks.

It's hard to see in the picture, but pieces of junk and glass cover this cliff.

After walking a little further, the junk site ends and the view is beautiful.

I think this is the lava arch. Past this is Keyhole Cave, a 20-plus-foot-long cave. We couldn't see the cave from where we were. Perhaps with calmer ocean conditions and if the kids were not with us, we would have ventured further down to look for it.

It was a fun little adventure for our family and interesting to see Glass Beach. It is sad to see that people just dumped so much junk there but at the same time it is oddly interesting. Either due to the fact that this is close to the industrial part of town, or that there's alot of junk around, it was somewhat of a stinky adventure.
